Ingredients
Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp USimplySeason Chinese Five Spice
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 large egg
Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp USimplySeason Chinese Five Spice
Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, whisk together the warm milk, yeast, granulated sugar, Chinese five spice powder, and salt. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the flour, melted butter, and egg to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Assemble the Cinnamon Rolls
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Roll out the dough into a 12x16 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll up the dough jelly-roll style, starting from a long side.
- Cut the dough into 12 equal rolls.
- Place the rolls in the prepared baking pan, cut-side down.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake the Cinnamon Rolls
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the cinnamon rolls cool in the pan for 5 minutes before frosting.
Make the Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls.
